The Sun’s electromagnetic radiation powers our solar system. In the case of the Earth it heats the lands and ocean, maintains
our atmosphere, generates clouds, and cycles water. For other planets and minor bodies, similar and appropriate physical processes
occur, also powered by the Sun. The Sun varies on all time scales and a precise knowledge of the Sun's irradiance and its
variation is essential to our understanding of environments and physical conditions throughout our solar system. Measurements
of solar irradiance and its variation can only be made from space, and almost thirty years of observation have now established
that the total solar irradiance (TSI) varies by only 0.1 to 0.3%, while certain portions of the solar spectrum, the ultraviolet
for example, vary by orders of magnitude more. This paper provides an overview of TSI observations and of spectral irradiance

The ultimate objective of this paper is the estimation of rainfall over an area in Algeria using data from the SEVIRI radiometer (Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager). To achieve this aim, we use a new Convective/Stratiform Rain Area Delineation Technique (CS-RADT). The satellite rainfall retrieval technique is based on various spectral parameters of SEVIRI that express microphysical and optical cloud properties. It uses a multispectral thresholding technique to distinguish between stratiform and convective clouds. This technique (CS-RADT) is applied to the complex situation of the Mediterranean climate of this region. The tests have been conducted during the rainy seasons of 2006/2007 and 2010/2011 where stratiform and convective precipitation is recorded. The developed scheme (CS-RADT) is calibrated by instantaneous meteorological radar data to determine thresholds, and then rain rates are assigned to each cloud type by using radar and rain gauge data. Venus and Titan are both slowly-rotating, approximately Earth-sized bodies with cloudy, dynamic atmospheres. Each has a complex
climate system, even less well understood than the terrestrial equivalent, and the processes that appear to maintain the climate
near the surface on both bodies have interesting similarities and differences with each other and with the Earth. By considering
these factors and their possible evolution with the aid of elementary climate models, some interesting, albeit tentative,
conclusions can be reached concerning the stability of climate on Earth-like planets, and the likely nature of past and future

The Ulysses spacecraft has been the first to orbit the Sun over its poles and to explore the heliosphere at these high heliolatitudes.
It has now completed two fast latitude scans, one at solar minimum and one at solar maximum. Since its launch in October 1990,
this mission has led to several surprising discoveries concerning energetic particles, cosmic rays, Jovian electrons, the
solar wind, the heliospheric magnetic field and the global features of the heliosphere. This review addresses mainly the propagation
and modulation of cosmic rays and other charged particles, from both an observational and theoretical point of view, with
emphasis on what has been learned from exploring the inner heliosphere to high heliolatitudes. This is done for solar minimum
and maximum conditions. The review is concluded with a summary of the main scientific discoveries and insights gained so far
